Graduates honored at Spring 2017 Commencement

North Central Texas College hosted two commencement ceremonies on May 12 at the Gainesville campus to honor the Spring 2017 graduates.

In an afternoon ceremony, graduates of Health Sciences and Cosmetology programs were honored. Later that evening, a ceremony was held for graduates of Career and Technical Education programs, and graduates of Arts and Sciences programs.

More than 610 students applied for graduation at NCTC this spring and 284 participated in the graduation ceremonies.

Eleven students graduated Summa Cum Laude with a cumulative grade point average of 4.00. They included Gabrielle Capri Andrews, Radhika Vidyut Bhakta, Gabriella Marie Brasher, Abigail Lynn Carpus, Scott Alan Gibson, Cassandra Damaris Henlon, Mona Isola, Jenny Liu, Ruiyi Liu, Selia Juanita Williams, and Jason C. Wohlgemuth.

Ten other students graduated Magna Cum Laude with a GPA of 3.90-3.99. They included Erica Renee Ashford, Amber Gayle Chesser, James Russell Cummings, Julia Sue Glenn, Morgan Good, Mary Helen Herrington, Jamie Michelle Mainard, Katelyn Anne Orr, Robert William Roth, and Davis Zackaria.

Graduates from the NCTC Honors Program included Melisa Cuevas, Cassandra Damaris Henlon, Lydia Huimin Low, Blanca Daisy Dunn, Raegan Alanna Larussa, Hannah Olayode, Vicki Jo Gibson, Ruiyi Liu, Hannah Kathryn Zimmerer, and Anna Lorene Grimes.

This semester, eight students graduated from the NCTC Collegiate Academy, an innovative program that was implemented Fall 2013 with Gainesville High School, Lake Dallas High School, and Steele Accelerated High School – Northwest ISD as pilot school partners. These eight students graduated from NCTC with their Associate Degrees, while still in high school. Graduates of the Collegiate Academy included: Radhika Vidyut Bhakta, Gabriella Marie Brasher, Thalia Lisveth Hernandez, and Jenny Liu of Gainesville High School, Abigail Lynn Carpus, Thomas Ricky Gibbons, and Jiyah Johannes Starks of iSchool High STEM Academy in Lewisville, and Nathalie Macaulay Gounaud of Texas Home School in Denton.

NCTC Provost Dr. Andrew Fisher presented the certification of graduates for the Class of Spring 2017, and NCTC President Dr. Brent Wallace conferred the degrees. Dr. Wallace also delivered the keynote message to the graduates.

The NCTC Choir, led by Shane Studdard, sang the National Anthem, and the NCTC Wind Symphony, led by Vince Kenney, provided music before the ceremonies.
