Transfer Guides

Transfer 101 is an essential resource for community college students in Texas! Check out their great articles and tips for students and parents, as well as their student profiles. See how other students like you made the transition from a community college into a university!
NCTC Counselors and Advisors are also available to assist you with transfer information—it's never to early to start planning ahead! Here is a list of things to consider when planning to transfer to another community college or university.
There are many reasons to change schools, and it is important that your new school has what your previous or current school lacks (e.g. program, major, level of degree, etc.).
This includes the credits needed and the credits that can be transferred. You can do this by calling the school or looking on their website.
Helpful hint: Only the institution you are transferring into can GUARANTEE which credits will transfer and which will not. Advisors at NCTC can assist you in reviewing transfer guides and potential course credit, but the intended transfer school has the final approval.
You will get a better understanding of the school and the requirements you must meet.
Representatives from many universities visit NCTC throughout the year to advise and consult with students about transferring. Check the Transfer Events Calendar to see when an event is scheduled, on which campus, and which universities will be present.
Make sure you meet the deadline. Have all of your official transcripts sent over to the new school. This includes both current/previous college transcripts and your high school transcript.
Helpful Hint: It is a good idea to keep a checklist of things you will be sending out and things you will expect in return (e.g. Financial Aid acceptance letter, General Admissions acceptance letter, etc.)
You must let them know that you are officially leaving the college.
Talk to a financial aid advisor at the institution you wish to transfer to and find out if there are other financial aid opportunities available to you.
Helpful hint: Sometimes there will be scholarships devoted to transfer students.
If you have to move, it is important to have everything taken care of by the time you get there. Make sure your current living arrangements are taken care of. Notify your roommates of the changes you are about to make.
Attend a Transfer Student Orientation, if available. This will help you become more familiar with the campus, the student resources, and the college community.
Transfer Events
Transfer fairs and events take place on the Corinth and Gainesville campuses throughout the year. Check the Transfer Events Calendar to see which universities are coming to which campus and when. Their representatives will be available for consultation and to answer your questions.
