Accounting

Accounting Program at NCTC

Accountants, bookkeepers, and those in similar jobs handle the money. These employees are indispensable to businesses. They record, organize, report, and audit all financial information to help companies cut costs, improve profits, and pay on time.

Industry growth is expected in the upcoming years with high prospects for entry-level and CPAs (certified public accountants). Especially in North Central Texas.

Accounting at NCTC

Our Accounting Program started in Fall 2019 and classes were held on the Flower Mound Campus.

Now the plan is to take the program online for the Fall 2020 semester. Online classes will have live lectures and engaging activities where students can ask questions in real time! These lectures will be accessible through Canvas and recorded for students to review later.

Education

Education Tracks

Both tracks are very similar except for four classes.

  1. Accounting Technician track is for students who want to work at a small company or a local CPA firm whose clients are small businesses. The classes start with the very basics of accounting and take you all the way through to an AAS Degree.
    • Courses toward the certificate prepare students for the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers national certification exam.
    • Courses toward the OSA will prepare students for the QuickBooks User certification
  2. Staff Accountant track is for students who want to work at large corporations. It is focused on classes that aren’t too different from the other track, but covers some advanced topics. ACCT 2301 classes are a bit more intense than ACNT 1303.

OSA classes will roll over to the Certificate program and the Certificate classes will roll over to the Accounting Technician track of the AAS.

Transfer Courses & Pathways

Both tracks of the Associates Degree through pathways can lead to a Bachelor's Degree and higher. For more information and a list of institutions that accept the AAS degree, please review AAS to BAAS Guided Pathways.

Apart from our Accounting Program, there are two Accounting academic transfer courses (ACGM) that are very popular with students transferring credits to a four-year college.

  • ACCT 2301 – Principles of Financial Accounting
  • ACCT 2302 – Principles of Managerial Accounting

Transfer courses are offered online and on campus at Corinth, Flower Mound and Denton.
